My name is Matthew Hancock or also known as TheCyberAstronaut, I am a graduate from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor’s of Science in Cyber Security.

- Investigated incidents & alerts using Microsoft Defender XDR and Elastic.
- Implemented Cribl for log pipeline management, improving observability across the university’s security infrastructure.
- Maintained an Elastic Stack to ingest and analyze logs across multiple systems for improved visibility and detection.
Application Security Intern @ Paycom

- Performed web penetration testing and code review on the Paycom application.

Activities
Infrastructure Lead @ Root66Tulsa Cyber Clubs
Maintained the infrastructure to host events, labs, and competition infrastructure.
- Maintained systems such as Authentik, Gitlab, Elastic, Netbird, and the clubs website.
- Set up and configured competition practice environments for the CCDC, CPTC, and CyberForce competition teams.
- Ran the infrastructure for a mini-CTF held by Root66Tulsa, TUCTF, and TU WiCyS.
CCDC (Collegiate Cyber Defense Competiton)
March 2026
Was the Co-Captain of the CCDC team with Root66Tulsa Cyber Clubs in the 2026 season.
- Coordinated team efforts across technical and operational responsibilities.
- Led network security operations while defending against an active Red Team.
- Created technical and business impact reviews of network components to the competition’s executive panel.
March 2024 - March 2025
Competed in the 2024 and 2025 seasons on the team focused towards DNS and logging.
- Maintained and secured the team’s SaaS DNS
- Worked on implementing centralized logging and alerting using Graylog and Elastic Agents.
- Secured servers and workstations while actively defending against Red Team.

- 2nd Place in March 2024 SWCCDC
CPTC (Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition)
November 2025
Was the Co-Captain of the CPTC team with Root66Tulsa Cyber Clubs in the 2025 season.
- Coordinated the teams penetration testing engagement.
- Helped organize and set up a practice environment using old CPTC VM images found here.
- Led web application penetration testing efforts in the competition environment to identify and document vulnerabilities in the client’s web infrastructure.

Competed in the 2024 season where I was focused towards web application testing with guidance from team captains and members.
- Conducted a web application penetration test in the competition environment.
